FIU Football: A Look Back at Last Season

A Season to Remember

The Florida International University (FIU) Panthers had a historic 2022 football season, culminating in their first-ever bowl game appearance. The team finished with a record of 9-3, their best mark since joining the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in 2005. The Panthers' success was built on a strong defense that ranked among the nation's best. They allowed just 18.7 points per game, which was the 10th-lowest mark in the FBS. The defense was led by linebackers Anthony Wint and Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste, who combined for over 200 tackles.

Offensive Success

On offense, the Panthers were led by quarterback Grayson James. James threw for over 2,500 yards and 18 touchdowns, while also rushing for over 500 yards and six touchdowns. Running back Lexington Thomas was also a key contributor, rushing for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Panthers' success in 2022 was a culmination of years of hard work and dedication by the coaching staff and players. Head coach Mike MacIntyre has led the Panthers to three bowl games in his six seasons at the helm.

Looking Ahead

The Panthers will look to build on their success in 2023. They return a number of key players, including James, Thomas, and Wint. The Panthers will also benefit from the addition of several talented recruits. The Panthers' schedule in 2023 is challenging, but they have the talent and experience to compete for another bowl game. The Panthers will open the season on the road against the University of Central Florida on August 26th.
